Why Water Quality exists
Agricultural nutrient and sediment loss to water is simultaneously a compliance risk, a reputational risk and — in designated catchments — a source of tradable nutrient credits. This module tracks loss risk by field, evidences mitigation, and manages nutrient neutrality credit generation and sale where the catchment supports it.
The Environmental Improvement Plan targets a reduction of at least 12 per cent in agricultural nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment pollution to water by 2030 against a 2018 baseline. Nutrient neutrality markets operate in affected catchments where development cannot proceed without offsetting nutrient load, and stacking with Biodiversity Net Gain is permitted under guidance where baselines are respected.
